What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a technique in which thin, solid needles are inserted into myofascial trigger points—tight knots in muscle that can cause pain, referred pain, and restricted movement. Unlike acupuncture, dry needling is based on Western anatomy and neurophysiology. No substance is injected; the needle itself stimulates the trigger point to release and relax the muscle.

At Be Your Therapist, dry needling is used by trained practitioners as part of a comprehensive plan for muscle pain, stiffness, and movement dysfunction. It is often combined with manual therapy and exercise for best results.

Benefits of Dry Needling

  • Reduces myofascial pain and trigger points
  • Improves muscle flexibility and range of motion
  • Can decrease referred pain from tight muscles
  • Complements rehabilitation and exercise
  • Often provides relief in few sessions

Who Can Benefit?

Dry needling may help people with chronic muscle pain, tension headaches, shoulder or back pain, and sports-related muscle tightness. It is not suitable for everyone; we will take your medical history and explain the procedure and any precautions before treatment.
